Fire Engulfs Northeast Columbia Home

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 10:19 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 to 3409 Nottingham Court for a report of a structure fire.

By the time this fire was reported to Joint Communications, it had already grown to the point that responding crews could see smoke and flames from the intersection of Brown Station Road and Highway 63.  On arrival, crews found smoke and flames coming from the home.  The home was approximately 50% engulfed.  Due to the amount of fire present, one Columbia Fire Department aerial apparatus was initially used to battle the flames down to a point where it was safe for crews to enter the structure.  The fire was brought under control in approximately 40 minutes.  The home suffered major fire, smoke, and water damage throughout.  There were no injuries and damage to the home and contents is currently estimated at $200,000.

Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department were on-scene and the cause is currently under investigation.

No one was home at the time of the fire due to the homeowner being out of town.  At this time, the name of the owner is being withheld pending notification of the fire.  Investigators have been working this evening to reach the owner, but have been unsuccessful to this point.
