Grand Opening Planned for StephensLakeAmphitheater
 
Two performances will mark the grand opening of the new amphitheater at StephensLakePark.  The grand opening will be held at 6:30 p.m.on June 26. 
 
The evening will begin with a performance of “The Revenge of the Space Pandas” by the Maplewood Barn Community Theater, followed by a musical performance by the Columbia Community Band. 
 
The new amphitheater is one of the last amenities to be built in the park. The outdoor venue will be programmed by the Parks and Recreation Department for events. It will also serve the community as a great spot for concerts and festivals and private functions, as well as for use by community arts organizations. 
 
The funding for the amphitheater comes from the Park Sales Tax, a grant from the Missouri Art Council and a Land and Water Fund Grant. Total cost of the project was budgeted at about $45,000.   
The amphitheater is available for rental from March 15 through October 15. It has a capacity of 500.
The amphitheater grand opening is being sponsored by the City’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Missouri Arts Council. Additional parking will be available for the event at the MoberlyAreaCommunity Collegeparking lot across the street from the park, as well as the BooneHospitalparking lot across Old Highway 63.
