Fourth of July Activities
City of Columbia’s 58th annual 4th of July-Fire in the Sky: Gates open at Mizzou’s Memorial Stadium at 6:30 p.m.for the free 4th of July celebration. Entertainment will begin at 7 p.m.with the Kansas City Street Band, followed by Hilary Scott at 8 p.m.The evening will also feature performances by the Hickman High School Choir and the ColumbiaCanineSportsCenter’s performing dogs. Fireworks choreographed to music will begin after 9:30 p.m.
Many fun activities are planned for kids on the concourse including a bounce house, bungee run, face painting, balloon art and 4th of July crafts.
The celebration is free and concessions are available. Attendees will not be allowed to bring fireworks to the stadium. Fire in the Sky is presented by the Columbia Insurance Group and KOMU 8, and sponsored by Cosmopolitan Luncheon Club, KBXR 102.3, KFRU 1400 & Mizzou Athletics.
Fourth of July swim: Special hours will be held at three of the city’s outdoor aquatic facilities. Albert-OaklandFamilyAquaticCenter, DouglassFamilyAquaticCenter, and Little Mates Cove at Pirates’ Landing will be open from 12to 5 p.m.on July 4. Lake of the Woods Pool will be closed.
Activity & RecreationCenter(ARC) hours: The ARC will be open from 11 a.m.to 5:30 p.m.on July 4. Recreational swim will be available from 12to 5 p.m.The ARC will resume normal hours of 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.on July 5.
L.A.Nickell and Lake of the Woodshours: Both city golf courses will close at 6 p.m.on July 4. Last tee time of the day will be 1:30 p.m.
Parks and Recreation reminds the public that fireworks are prohibited in city parks.
