Applications are being accepted for the Storm Water Advisory Commission
(COLUMBIA, MO) – The City Clerk’s Office is accepting applications for
a new Storm Water Advisory Commission. At the May 17 meeting, City
Council members authorized another period of public advertising to
assure that the applicant pool is as diverse as possible.
The purpose of this new commission is to:
• advise city staff with regard to policy and long-range goals in all
matters concerning the storm water utility;
• serve as a sounding board for citizen concerns regarding storm water
issues and make recommendations to the City Council and city staff for
appropriate action; and
• other duties assigned by the City Council.
The commission will consist of five members. One member shall be
appointed by the chancellor of the University of Missouri to represent
the University, and the other four members shall be appointed by the
City Council.
Members must be qualified voters and residents of the city of Columbia
for at least one year prior to their appointment and remain so
throughout the duration of their service. Members must also be
sympathetic with the principle of municipal storm water management that
ensures sound and efficient management of the system.
Handling stormwater is an important issue locally and across the
nation. Factors can include establishing a reasonable business operation
for a stormwater utility; assessing best practices for moving water from
the surface to drains and other areas; and identifying short-term and
long-term costs for a stormwater system.
Applications can be obtained at the City Clerk’s Office or can be found
on the city’s website:

Applications must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office, 701 E.
Broadway, by noon on Friday, June 4.
