‘Youth In Action’ summer volunteer program begins its ninth year 
       
(COLUMBIA, MO) – Youth In Action, a summer volunteer program aimed at
12-15 year-olds, is a great way for young people to use their free time
when school is out. The program includes a variety of supervised and
structured volunteer activities with various organizations throughout
Columbia.
The participants in Youth In Action will have many opportunities to
give back to Columbia this summer. City of Columbia staff organizes
volunteer activities throughout the summer; types and times of
activities vary. Activities include helping with Art in the Park and
Lunch in the Park, cleaning streams and assisting with community
gardening. Participants choose the opportunities in which they would
like to volunteer.
The city of Columbia’s Volunteer Programs will host two informational
sessions about Youth In Action and the 2010 summer program. These
sessions are open house style; interested persons may sign up for
volunteer activities during the following dates and times:
• Thursday, May 27, 4:30-7 p.m. at the ARC, 1701 W. Ash Street
• Wednesday, June 2, 3:30-6 p.m. at the Office of Neighborhood
Services, 3601 S. Providence Road
