FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
TRASH COMPACTOR AND DUMPSTER FIRE AT GOODWILL STORE

Fire units from the Columbia Missouri Fire Department responded to 1405 Grindstone Parkway for a Commercial Structure Fire at the Goodwill store. Fire Fighters arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames coming from a large roll-off dumpster that was attached to a trash compactor on the loading dock.  Crews closed the loading dock door to prevent smoke from entering the structure and extinguished what they could of the fire. Due to the construction of the container crews were unable to get large volumes of water into the dumpster to extinguish the fire. 

The Solid Waste department was contacted and a crew was sent to pick up the dumpster. The fire department then followed the smoldering dumpster to the landfill where it could be unloaded and extinguished. Periodically crews had to extinguish the flames from the dumpster as they made their way to the land fill. There was no damage to the structure and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
