‘Portrait of a Sister City’ debuts tonight

COLUMBIA, MO (August 17, 2011) - The "Portrait of a Sister City" photography exhibit will focus on the city of Suncheon, in the Republic of Korea. Suncheon is Columbia's first sister city to share its vision of community as where people live, learn, play, work, dream and explore. The exhibit will premiere at the "Around the World" Family Fun Fest tonight from 6-8 p.m. in Flat Branch Park at 101 S. 4th Street.

Plans for "Portrait of a Sister City: Suncheon, Korea" began last fall when Mayor Roh Kwan-Kyu and other Suncheon officials visited Columbia. The Suncheon exhibit will be on display in the lobby of the historic Daniel Boone Building from Aug. 18 through mid-November. An online exhibit is available at www.GoColumbiaMo.com. The lobby is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Renee Graham, public communications officer for the city of Columbia, coordinates Sister City activities with other cities including Hakusan, Japan; Laoshan District - Qingdoa, China; Kutaisi, Georgia; and Sibiu, Romania. Graham hopes to feature other sister cities in future exhibits.

"We are always looking for interesting and affordable ways to promote cultural exchange between the city of Columbia and our Sister City partners. The Portrait of a Sister City project is a great way to show Columbians the people, places and things that make our sister cities so special," Graham said.
