City manager names acting Convention and Visitors Bureau director

COLUMBIA, MO (February 21, 2011) - City Manager Bill Watkins has named Amy Schneider as acting director of Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), effective Feb. 16, 2011. The appointment comes as former director Lorah Steiner left city employment for a position with the Charlotte County, Florida Tourist Development Council on Feb. 15. 

Watkins said that Schneider's four years with CVB are excellent background for the transition. "I will depend on Amy's steady hand in this key position as we continue to recruit and select a permanent bureau director. CVB is a gateway to the community, and I know she will keep the welcome mat out."

Schneider's experience includes more than 16 years in the hospitality business, primarily with major hotels. She joined the Columbia Bureau in June 2007 as sales manager. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Missouri and belongs to several local, regional and statewide organizations.

"The Convention and Visitors Bureau has a strong team," Schneider said. "I am confident that the outstanding service that's come to be expected of us will continue during this transitional period."

Schneider's annual salary will increase from around $46,300 to $76,000 during her appointment, and she will maintain her existing employee benefits. Schneider and her husband live in Columbia.
