Shed Fire Damages Manufactured Homes

COLUMBIA, MO (July 11, 2011) - For Immediate Release:

Shed Fire Damages Manufactured Homes

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 3:06 pm on Monday, July 11, 2011, to 2904 Range Line Rd, Unit #69 for a reported fire involving an outside structure.

When Fire Fighters arrived on the scene they reported a shed at the rear of the residence fully involved. While the shed was the primary location of the fire the rear of the residence also suffered damage along with the neighboring unit #67. The fire was brought under control in approximately 7 minutes and there were no injuries reported.

The home is owned by Marie Crews of Columbia who was inside the residence at the time of the fire. A passerby noticed smoke coming from the shed and alerted those in the residence. At the time of notification there were three people in the home; one of them being asleep. The fire is currently under investigation but a preliminary dollar loss of $ 10,000.00 has been issued by Assistant Fire Marshal Debbie Sorrell. She also reported that at the time of the fire there were working smoke detectors in the residence.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor. If you can not afford a smoke alarm, call the Columbia Fire Department at 573-874-7556 to schedule an appointment to have free smoke alarms installed. For residences who need assistance in checking their smoke alarms, they can also contact the Columbia Fire Department.
