COLUMBIA, MO (July 25, 2011) - For Immediate Release:

Dump Truck Rolls Over on N Bound Hwy 63

 

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 1:46 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 to North Bound Hwy 63 just north of the Mexico Gravel Overpass.

 

Fire Fighters arrived on the scene and found a 1997 Freightliner Dump Truck on its side with two Boone County Fire Fighters on top of the vehicle tending to the injured driver. Crews packaged the male driver, removed him from the truck, and prepared him for transport to the University Hospital Emergency Room as a Trauma Alert (possible life threatening injuries).

 

Crews then focused on shutting down the leaking fuel tank and getting an absorbent down on the fuel and fluids that were already on the roadway because of the accident. The accident involved two vehicles; the 97 Freightliner and a blue 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. Both vehicles were south bound on Hwy 63 until the dump truck crossed over the median and overturned on the right shoulder of the north bound lane. The driver of the dump truck was the only individual transported to the hospital from the scene. At the time of this release MoDot was working with contractors to get the load of asphalt the truck was hauling cleaned up and the roadway open.  

 

The Columbia Fire Department reminds all motorists to wear their seatbelts. The law requires all persons in the vehicle to be seat belted in but just as important is the fact that seat belts save lives.
