COLUMBIA, MO (November 27, 2011) - For Immediate Release:

Early Morning Apartment Fire Displaces Residents

 

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 04:55 am on Sunday, November 27, 2011, to 230 Apple Tree Court, Apartment 1, for a reported residential structure fire.

 

Upon their arrival crews reported fire in the back bedroom of apartment #1. The fire was extinguished quickly and confined to the bedroom. The fire was knocked down in under 10 minutes

 

Assistant Fire Marshal Brian Davison investigated the fire and stated the cause of the fire was under investigation. The owner of the apartment building is Don Freese of Columbia. Smoke detectors did sound to alert tenants to the fire. All tenants had evacuated from the building and there were no injuries as a result of the fire. AFM Davison also issued a preliminary damage estimate of $ 10,000.00.

 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor. If you can not afford a smoke alarm, call the Columbia Fire Department at 573-874-7556 to schedule an appointment to have free smoke alarms installed. For residences who need assistance in checking their smoke alarms, they can also contact the Columbia Fire Department.
