Schedule of Events to Honor World AIDS Day
COLUMBIA, MO (November 28, 2011) - Public Health and Human Services Recognizes World AIDS Day
Public is Invited to Week-Long Celebration
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services, along with Stephens College, RAIN, Trail to a Cure and SHAPE, will recognize World AIDS Day on Thursday, December 1st with a series of special events this week. A full schedule of events is located at www.worldaidsdaycomo.com. The public is invited to attend on:
*Monday, November 28 through Thursday, December 1 - Viewing of the AIDS Memorial Quilt from 3-8 pm, Firestone Baars Chapel on the Stephens College Campus
*Monday, November 28 - HIV Presentation with Jannis Evans at 5 pm, Firestone Baars Chapel on the Stephens College campus
*Tuesday, November 29 - Viewing of the AIDS Memorial Quilt from 3 - 8 pm, Firestone Baars Chapel on the Stephens College campus
*Wednesday, November 30 - FREE HIV/STD Testing from 10 am - 3 pm, Student Center on the Stephens College campus
*Wednesday, November 30 - Living with HIV: A Personal Journey of Trials and Triumph at Firestone Baars Chapel on the Stephens College campus. The exact time for this special speaker has not yet been confirmed. Please visit www.worldaidsdaycomo.com for schedule updates.
*Thursday, December 1 - FREE HIV Testing with SHAPE from 10 am - 2 pm, Student Center on the MU campus
*Thursday, December 1 - Candlelight vigil from 5-5:45 pm at the intersection of College and Broadway. Following the vigil, there will be a processional to Firestone Baars Chapel on the Stephens College campus for a Service of Remembrance beginning at 6 pm
World AIDS Day is held each year on December 1st as an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. Globally, there are an estimated 33.3 million people living with HIV. The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services offers free HIV/AIDS testing during walk-in hours Monday morning and Thursday afternoon or by appointment.
