City, Daughters of American Revolution partner for 9-11 commemoration
COLUMBIA, MO (September 8, 2011) - The City of Columbia and the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution - Columbian Chapter (DAR) invite the public to gather for the tenth anniversary of events that took place on Sept. 11, 2001. Ceremonies will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, from 7:30 - 8:15 a.m., at City Hall Plaza, Eighth Street and Broadway.
Columbian Chapter Regent Cindy Suich said, "The purpose is to commemorate the lives lost, to honor and recognize all our brave firefighters and police officers and to remember the American spirit that united all of us after that event."
The program...which features remarks by Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid, a representative of the Boone County Fire Protection District and Suich; a reading of the Preamble to the United States Constitution; music by Hickman High School students and firefighters' bagpipers; and presentation of a banner to Mayor McDavid...will be backed up by a display of the Columbia Fire Department's 60-foot by 40-foot American flag.
To accommodate the flag display, Broadway and Eighth Streets will be partially closed from 7 - 8:30 a.m.
