Citys ONS and United Methodist churches will hold service project in conjunction with 9/11 remembrance
COLUMBIA, MO (September 8, 2011) - The city of Columbia's Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) and six United Methodist churches in Columbia are pleased to announce their collaboration on a service project being conducted in conjunction with the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. On Sunday, Sept. 11, multiple volunteer groups will conduct minor home repair and cleanup projects on homes throughout the city. Examples of work to be performed include painting, replacement of siding and gutters and other minor exterior work. Yard work will also take place at several locations, including lawn care and the removal of small trees, bushes and trash.
ONS and the six United Methodist churches extend their thanks to HandsOn Network (HON) for awarding this project with a $1,000 mini-grant to be used for purchasing needed project supplies. Columbia's is one of only 20 community projects to receive this award. HON is the volunteer-focused arm of Points of Light Institute, the largest volunteer network in the nation including more than 250 HON Action Centers in 16 countries. HON, in collaboration with MyGoodDeed.org, a leading voice in the 9/11 community service movement, is partnering with organizations and civic groups across the country to organize service and remembrance projects for the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
