Have a Plan, Practice Your Plan!! National Preparedness Month Continues

COLUMBIA, MO (September 19, 2011) - Do you know when the next disaster is going to hit?  Do you know where it may happen?  Do you know how your family will be impacted?    For many of us, the answer to these questions is likely "no"!!  That's why being prepared for a disaster is one of the most important things you can do to protect your life, family and property.

"While advances in technology have made life easier on many levels, they do not help predict the next big disaster," says Zim Schwartze, Director of the Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management.  "The fact is, predicting when or where a disaster will strike is nearly impossible. However, we can be proactive and prepare ourselves, our families, and our businesses.  Being prepared for what happens during an event, as well as the hours and days after a disaster are important.  Having a plan, assembling an emergency supply kit, and knowing where to meet your family members are all steps that can be taken in advance to ensure your safety after a disaster."
