Walnut Street closure

COLUMBIA, MO (September 20, 2011) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department announces that on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 8 a.m., Boone Construction will begin construction of a new sidewalk on the north side of Walnut Street from William Street to Old Hwy 63. This work will result in a temporary road closure each day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Walnut Street from William Street to Old Hwy 63. Detours will be marked around the work zone. The project should be completed and the road fully opened in mid-November, weather permitting.    

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution when in the construction area and will need to use an alternate route during day hours. This sidewalk project is part of the $22 million non-motorized pilot program being funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
