COLUMBIA, MO (April 24, 2012) - Interested Parties Meeting
Thursday, April 26th, 2012
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

5801 Arbor Point Parkway
DIRECTIONS: Head north, either on Brown Station Road or Paris Road, about 1.5 miles past Highway 63. Go west on Waco Road and then north at Arbor Point Parkway.
Columbia Water & Light is upgrading the water distribution system on the northeast side of town. The long range water plans indicate that a new 16-inch water distribution line is needed. The new water main will transfer water for customer usage, fire protection and to a storage tower. A consulting firm is helping the utility establish routes for the new water main. This meeting will review the route alternatives with area neighbors and property owners.
The new water line will tie into an existing water main near the intersection of Mexico Gravel Road and Lake of the Woods Road. It will extend northwest to the Stephens Station Water Tower which is located near the intersection of Heller Road and Brown Station Road. Engineering Surveys and Services evaluated many different routes for the new water line. The criteria they used to narrow the options down to six alternatives was: construction cost, maintenance/accessibility, environmental impacts, existing and proposed improvements, planned corridor development, easements, park land, the amount of tree clearing needed and hazardous materials.
Columbia Water & Light would like to give people interested in the project an opportunity to review the different routes being proposed for the new water distribution pipe. After reviewing input from the public, the utility will present the preferred alignments to the Columbia City Council. The City Council will make the final decision on the new water main route after holding a public hearing. The new water main is being funded through a voter approved bond issue passed in 2008.
