Fire in Cord Oven Forces Evacuation of Gates Rubber

COLUMBIA, MO (December 3, 2012) - For Immediate Release:

Fire in Cord Oven Forces Evacuation of Gates Rubber

 

On 12/03/2012, members of the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched, at 12:01 pm, to a reported residential structure fire at 3015 Lemone Industrial Dr., Gates Rubber. 

 

Prior to the Fire Department's arrival employees attempted to extinguish a fire in a cord dryer oven. They used fire extinguishers to knock the fire down but could not extinguish it. Upon their arrival at 12:08 crews reported fire was still active in the oven so fire hoses were deployed to finish extinguishing the fire. The fire was under control at 12:48 and crews were doing a small amount of overhaul as others began to pick up equipment.

 

Lt Shawn McCollom investigated the fire and the exact cause of the fire is unknown and a damage estimate of $ 5,000.00 dollars has been issued. There were 60 to 70 employees on site at the time of the fire but no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
