Electrical Fire at the Bluffs

COLUMBIA, MO (July 5, 2012) - For Immediate Release:

Electrical Fire at the Bluffs 

 

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 5:01 pm on Thursday, July 5, 2012, to 3105 Bluff Creek Drive, for a reported commercial structure fire.

 

Upon their arrival, at 5:05 crews found a small fire involving the plug from a food warmer and an electrical outlet that had been extinguished by employees using a fire extinguisher. Fire crews then searched the area for any hidden fire; finding none they held the area for the investigator.  

 

Assistant Fire Marshal Shawn McCollom investigated the fire and determined the cause of the fire to be the failure of an electrical plug from a food warmer that also involved the electrical outlet it was plugged in to. He also issued a damage estimate of $ 4,000.00. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.

 

The Columbia Fire Department would like to remind business owners, employees, and residents that the use of a fire extinguisher is a learned skill. You should be familiar with the operation of the extinguisher and the methods of extinguishment before attempting to extinguish a small fire.
