Fire Officials Warn of Dangerous Dry Conditions

COLUMBIA, MO (July 5, 2012) - Columbia Fire Department officials are urging residents to take extra precautions to avoid fires after numerous natural cover fires over the past several weeks.

'Given the hot, dry conditions in Columbia I want to express our strong concern for the increased risk of fires' stated Columbia Fire Marshal Brad Fraizer.  'We are urging residents to be cautious when discarding smoking materials, ashes from barbecue grills and similar items that could start a fire'.

The lack of rain and high temperatures have transfomed grass, leaves, weeds and crops into potential fiuel sources for a fire.
