Brookside Apartments - Investigation Update

COLUMBIA, MO (June 13, 2012) - The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire at 1221 East Walnut, Brookside Apartments, which occurred on Sunday, May 27, 2012, continues.  Currently the fire cause remains undetermined. The investigation is active and will continue for an unknown period of time.

Scene examination and dozens of interviews have taken place since the fire. Due to the large dollar loss, and enormity of the number of interviews and scene examination, Columbia Fire Investigators have consulted with Columbia Police detectives, the State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF). These agencies have provided valuable expertise and assistance with the large number of interviews as well as consultation on the fire origin and cause.

Additional interviews will take place in the coming week as well as follow-up on leads provided by several sources including the public. We again ask that if anyone has any information, photos or video which they have not shared with investigators, to please do so. The Columbia Fire Department, Fire Marshal's Division may be contact at 573-874-7556. The public may also call Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS to relay information pertaining to this fire.
