Early Morning Fire Causes Minimal Damage to Central City Home

COLUMBIA, MO (June 26, 2012) - The Columbia Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 9:42 am on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 501 North Providence. A resident of the home was alerted to a strong smell of smoke and called 911.  

Fire fighters arrived and found light smoke coming from the exterior of the home on the north side. The small fire was extinguished within several minutes and fire fighters used fans to vent the smoke from the home. 

Fire fighters remained on the scene for approximately forty five minutes conducting overhaul activities to ensure no fire extension into the wall or living space.   

The fire investigation has concluded with the cause undetermined.  Damage estimates to the structure are preliminarily set at $1,000.00. 

This home had working smoke alarms and while not needed in this instance, they would have provided early detection under different circumstances.
