Pavement failures could result from extreme temperatures

COLUMBIA, MO (June 27, 2012) - Extreme heat can cause pavement "blowups" on city streets as temperatures hover around 100 degrees. As temperatures rise, road surfaces may expand at a joint or crack where moisture has seeped in; this may cause the pavement to buckle. If you approach an area where pavement buckling has occurred, exercise caution and contact the city's Street Division at (573) 874-6289 so repairs can be made.
