Creating a sustainable economy with renewable energy
COLUMBIA, MO (March 23, 2012) - Speakers at the Advancing Renewables in the Midwest conference on Monday will discuss utility-scale renewable energy projects that can transform our energy supply. Topics will range from various renewable resources to energy efficiency. The conference will be held on March 26, 2012 from8:00 am to 4:30 pm in the Christopher S. Bond Life Sciences Center on the University of Missouri campus.
On the premise that it isn't if, but how, the world can attain a 100% renewable energy mark within the next 20 to 40 years, Mark Jacobson of Stanford University will share details of his research into sustainable energy potentials on a global scale. A representative from the Free Power Corporation will discuss the development of Columbia's solar projects. Wind, biomass and animal waste resources will be the subject of other sessions. Energy efficiency speakers will review projects that can make renewable energy supplies go further. On the utility side, the development of an electric transmission system that delivers power from where it is created to where it is needed will be reviewed along with how the wholesale energy market deals with renewable energy. The conference schedule and the biographies of the speakers can be found on the conference Web site.
The cost of the conference is $75 for the general public and $100 for energy professionals. Registration can be accomplished online at AdvancingRenewables.org or by calling (573) 882-4349 or emailing muconf3 at missouri.edu. Reporters covering the event for a story need to check in at the registration desk the day of the conference.
The sixth annual Advancing Renewables in the Midwest conference is hosted by Columbia Water & Light, the University of Missouri's Department of Soil, Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
