2701 Nifong Blvd and 5308 Clark Lane - Updates
COLUMBIA, MO (May 14, 2012) - On Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 6:00 PM, fire fighters at Station 8, located at the corner of Bearfield Road and Nifong Blvd, were outside and smelled smoke. The crew boarded the fire truck and began driving around and located a mobile home in the Columbia Regency Mobile Home Park fully involved in fire.
Fire investigators found the mobile home had been vacant for a month or so, and signs of salvaging of copper wiring and pipes had taken place at some point. No utilities were present at the mobile home and witnesses in the mobile home park who were in the area of the trailer which burned around 4:00 PM, did not see any smoke or fire.
The area of origin and cause are undetermined. Anyone with any information about this fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
On Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 6:22 PM, fire fighters were called to 5308 Clark Lane, Apartment 101, of The Links when a resident reported seeing smoke coming from the apartment and seeing flames in the apartment through a window.
Fire investigators determined the origin of the fire was in the kitchen on or near the stove top. The residents stated they had not cooked for over a day. One theory was that the family dog, Duke, jumped up on the stove and inadverently turned on a burner. The burner knobs are mounted on the front of the stove.
The fire damage is estimated at $40,000 to the structure and contents.
