2701 Nifong and 5308 Clark Lane - Combined Press Release
COLUMBIA, MO (May 13, 2012) - COLUMBIA, MO (May 13, 2012)-
Columbia Fire Fighters were dispatched to 2701 East Nifong, the former Columbia Regency Mobile Home Park, at 6:00 PM on Sunday, May 13, 2012 for a report of a mobile home fully involved in fire.
Fire fighters from Columbia Fire Station 8 were on the scene in 2 minutes and found an abandon mobile home fully involved in fire. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire in about 10 minutes.
The mobile home was abandon and no one was inside and no one was injured.
The utilities (electric and gas) were disconnected. Fire investigators are unable to determine and origin within the mobile home as damage was extensive. The fire cause is undetermined as of this release. The fire is suspicious in nature as the utilities were disconnected and no one was living in the mobile home. Columbia Police are assisting the Fire Marshal's Office with the investigation. Anyone who may have seen people(s) in or around the mobile home where the fire occurred are asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
At 6:22 PM on Sunday, May 13, 2012, Columbia Fire Fighters were dispatched to 5308 Clark Lane, The Links, Apartment 101 where a resident saw fire and smoke inside the apartment through a window.
Fire fighters arrived four minutes later and reported smoke from a ground floor apartment within the eight-plex of apartments. Fire fighter forced entry into the apartment and found a fire in the kitchen area. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire in less than 5 minutes.
Fire fighters conducting a primary search of the apartment found no one was home, however, fire fighters located a canine hiding behind the headboard of a bed in one of the bedrooms. The dog, "Duke", was brought outside without incident. A veterinarian intern who lived in a building across from the apartment checked Duke and advised that while he was showing no outward signs of distress, he should be seen be a veterinarian to be further evaluated.
The occupant of the apartment arrived and was advised on the condition Duke and he indicated he would seek care for him later this evening.
Fire investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen near the stove top. As of this release, no official cause has been determined. Damage to the apartment consisted of fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage in the remainder of the apartment. Other apartments in the 8-plex had some minor smoke odor. No damage estimate was available as of this release.The occupant(s) of apartment 101 will likely be relocated for a short period of time, occupants of the other apartments were able to return.
