Changes to Nifong Boulevard just east of Providence Road

COLUMBIA, MO (May 14, 2012) - The City of Columbia Public Works Department announces that striping changes have occurred on Nifong Boulevard, between Providence Road and Bethel Street. The city has recently received multiple complaints about the westbound through-lanes merging just west of Providence Road. Westbound motorists in the right lane were previously in a right-turn-only condition at the Nifong Shopping Center, which is anchored by Gerbes. 

An asphalt overlay provided an opportunity to adjust the lanes on the roadway. With the new striping installed Friday, May 11, motorists may continue west in the right lane of Nifong Boulevard until they reach Monterey Drive.

It is anticipated that this change will improve safety and provide a more useful roadway for citizens and businesses along Nifong Boulevard. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area as workers finalize the changes with the addition of lane-use arrows.
