Fire Department Dispatched to Damaged Home

COLUMBIA, MO (November 3, 2012) - At 10:22am today a 9-1-1 caller reported the front door, portions of the wall and back door of 200 Lincoln Drive were open.

The Columbia Police Department responded and upon arrival reported charing around the front door.  Public Service, Joint Communications upgraded the call to a residential structure fire and dispatched the Columbia Fire Department at 10:42am.

Columbia Fire Department personnel arrived at 10:47am and reported no fire or smoke coming from the structure.  The first arriving company inspected the home and observed moderate damage consistent with an eruption.  Crews evacuated the building, shut off gas to the target address and conducted air quality checks with a gas monitor.  Nothing unusual was found.  Ameren UE was dispatched to the scene and shut off gas to rest of the building.

Additional readings from all units in the building were taken from both Ameren UE and the fire department and came back negative.  The gas service to the building, with the exception of the target address, was turned back on.  Additional readings were taken throughout the building and nothing unusual was found.  The occupants were allowed to return to their homes.  A Columbia Fire Department investigator was called to the scene to investigate.

Assistant Fire Marshal,  Lieutenant Lisa Todd estimates damages at $50,000.  The origin and cause of the event remain under investigation.   All factors, including evidence of multiple, total release foggers also known as 'bug bombs' which were present and apparently recently used in the home, are being considered as possible causes for this event.

Three fire engines, a ladder and a rescue squad responded to the call.
