Fire Department Assists with Fire Drills

COLUMBIA, MO (September 13, 2012) - Fire Department Assists City With Fire Drills

The Columbia Fire Department, working with the City's Risk Management Department, will assist City employees conduct fire drills at various city buildings Friday, September 14.

'If there is a fire, you need to be able to get out of a building quickly and safely.  Fire drills are excellent ways to take people through the process of leaving a building during an emergency' said Fire Marshal Brad Fraizer. 'The City of Columbia is setting a great example for others to follow.'

Fire drills will be conducted Friday, September 14 at the Daniel Boone Building, 701 East Broadway at 1:30pm, the Gentry Building, #1 South 7th Street at 1:30pm, the Howard Building, 600 East Broadway at 1:30pm and the Health Department, 1801 West Worley at 2:00pm.

More than 3,500 Americans die each year in fires and approximately 18,200 are injured.  Deaths resulting from failed emergency escapes are particularly avoidable.  In the event of a fire, remember - time is the biggest enemy and every second counts.  In less than thirty seconds a small flame can get completely out of control and turn into a major fire.  Escape plans get you out of your office or home quickly.
