Injury Accident at the 127.8 Mile Marker I-70 Westbound

COLUMBIA, MO (April 22, 2013) - TYPE OF INCIDENT: Injury Traffic Crash

ACCIDENT LOCATION:  127.8 MM I-70 westbound              

 

DRIVER #1:  Berst, Robert W                                                        Age: 55

                       1716 West Johnson                                                    Injured: No

                       Vandalia, Il 62471                                                      Seat Belt: Yes

  

PEDESTRIAN #1:    Braun, Nicholas D                                        Age:23

                                  216 South Fifth St.                                          Injured:Yes

                                  Columbia, Mo 65201  

                                                                                   

DETAILS OF INCIDENT:

 Crash occurred when vehicle #1, a 2013 International Prostar Tractor-Trailer Unit was westbound on I-70 near the 127.8 MM and Pedestrian #1 was walking in the outside westbound lanes of traffic near the 127.8 MM of I-70.  Driver of vehicle #1 attempted to swerve to avoid pedestrian #1, but was unsuccessful, and struck the pedestrian near the passenger headlight.

 

Pedestrian #1 was transported from the scene by EMS personnel to The University of Missouri Hospital for life threatening injuries. Driver #1 was uninjured. It is unknown at this time why the pedestrian was in the lanes of traffic and not on the shoulder.

Excessive speed, alcohol, and/or inattention on the part of driver #1 are not believed to be a factor, however driver #1 voluntarily submitted to a chemical result of his blood.  Results pending lab analysis.
