Musgrove named manager of Cultural Affairs
COLUMBIA, MO (August 5, 2013) - Assistant City Manager Carol Rhodes today announced that JJ Musgrove has been selected as manager of the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs, effective Aug. 29. He replaces Chris Stevens, who moved to Colorado last month with his family.
Musgrove, currently serving as executive director of Donor Services for the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley, in Columbus, Ga., will be paid a salary of $75,500, along with other benefits authorized by city ordinance.
Rhodes said that Musgrove was the unanimous choice recommended by a screening committee formed to review the qualifications of all those who applied during the nationwide search. “I applaud committee members for the time, care and independent judgment they brought to this search process,” Rhodes said. “This is the best type of community collaboration.”
Musgrove said that he was “very excited” about this opportunity to serve the arts and cultural community of Columbia. “I am originally from Missouri, and my family and I are looking forward to coming home,” Musgrove said. “Columbia is a fantastic town with a vibrant arts community, and I am eager to apply my experience in the arts and nonprofits for the benefit of Columbia.”
It’s this wide and relevant experience that Musgrove brings to his new position, Rhodes said. “JJ has 15 years of nonprofit experience, including 10 years in executive management. His work with the Community Foundation, where he oversees scholarship programs and works with donors to increase philanthropy in the Chattahoochee Valley, is critical, as he will be responsible for building a sustainable Community Arts Foundation in Columbia,” Rhodes said.
Musgrove holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in theater and business, with a concentration in organizational leadership, including a master’s degree from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. In addition to his work at the Community Foundation, Musgrove has experience in arts administration, higher education (both administrative and teaching), fundraising, executive coaching and volunteer and not-for-profit organizations.
