Columbia Fire Department is a Built For Life Department
COLUMBIA, MO (August 6, 2013) - The Columbia Fire Department working together with the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, Habitat for Humanity and State Farm Insurance was pleased to recognize the Reh family's home on Alan Lane as a recipient of grant money for a home fire sprinkler.
This home, built by Habitat for Humanity, is one of only fifteen in the United States that received this grant through the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition. The grant was funded by State Farm Insurance and made possible because the Columbia Fire Department is recognized as a Built For Life Department. Less than ten percent of fire departments in Missouri have received this distinction.
The nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition's, Built For Life Department program, which is funded through a FEMA grant, helps fire departments nationwide with their residential fire sprinkler education efforts. The program recognizes fire departments for their proactive outreach and gives them priority access to HFSC's newest educational tools and efforts.
"Fire sprinklers not only save lives in protected homes, they also provide safer conditions for the men and women in the fire service," says Columbia Fire Chief Chuck Witt. "Home fire sprinklers provide economical and reliable fire protection."
