Residential Structure Fire 808 West Boulevard
COLUMBIA, MO (July 6, 2013) -
The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 808 West Boulevard Saturday, July 6 at 5:17am. Columbia Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene four minutes later and observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.
Fire personnel conducted a rapid fire attack and brought the situation under control in approximately ten minutes. The fire had extended to portions of the attic. Crews accessed the attic and extinguished the remaining fire.
Overhaul operations continued for one hour while crews removed portions of the ceiling and wall looking for fire in concealed spaces.
There was one occupant home at the time of the fire. No one was injured during this event.
Assistant Fire Marshal Lieutenant Tim Bach is investigating and has not yet determined the cause. It remains under investigation.
Nine units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.
The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
