College and Walnut intersection improvements to begin on Tuesday, July 9

COLUMBIA, MO (July 8, 2013) - Gerstner Electric will begin work at 7:00 am on Tuesday, July 9 at the intersection of College Ave and East Walnut as part of the College and Walnut Intersection Improvement project. The project will add a left turn lane for eastbound Walnut traffic onto northbound College Ave., and will also included the needed traffic signal enhancements.

The first phase of the project will involve utility work in the right of way which will result in sidewalk closures along both College Ave and Walnut St.

A complete closure of Walnut St. west of College is planned for the week of July 29. Temporary lane restrictions and closures on College Ave. to allow for traffic signal loop detectors and lane stripping are planned to begin on Thursday, August 1.

All work is scheduled to be completed by August 9th. The construction schedule and finish date is weather dependent.

Motorist, cyclist and pedestrians and encouraged to find alternate routes, use caution in the construction area, and plan for delays.

The projects estimated cost is $138,455 and is funded throught the one-quarter cent capital improvement sales tax extension approved by voters in 2005.
