Small Fire in University of Missouri Power Plant Ash Silo

COLUMBIA, MO (July 10, 2013) - For Immediate Release:

Small Fire in University of Missouri Power Plant Ash Silo

 

On 07/10/2013, members of the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched, at 07:06 am, to a reported fire in the ash silo at the University Of Missouri Power Plant located at 417 S Fifth Street. Crews arrived on the scene at 07:11 am and they found a small fire had occurred in the west ash collection silo. When the airflow to the silo was shut down the fire burned itself out. Fire crews then assisted power plant employees with ventilation of the smoke related to the incident.

 

Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Pasley investigated the fire and it was determined that a hot ember had made its way into the ash collection silo setting the paper air filters on fire. The fire was contained to the silo and the only damage associated with the incident was to the ash collection bags. There were no injuries associated with this incident.
