Columbia Arts Foundation kicks off with fundraiser

COLUMBIA, MO (May 8, 2013) - The Columbia Arts Foundation will host Arts & Drafts, a Missouri craft beer tasting and gallery crawl fundraiser, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, in downtown Columbia. Patrons will tour six local art galleries, each featuring a different Missouri craft beer. The event will be followed with an afterparty at Mojo’s.

Formed in 2012, the goal of the Columbia Arts Foundation is to broaden the base of support for the arts, promote excellence in the arts, increase arts education in local schools and ensure that arts organizations in and around Columbia are financially stable. The foundation’s mission is to provide resources to artists, schools and cultural organizations that foster education, accessibility and appreciation of the arts for the benefit of the citizens of Columbia.

“The event will be a fundraiser and kickoff for the Columbia Arts Foundation. Attendees will try new Missouri crafted beers, see local art and be introduced to the Columbia Arts Foundation,” says Chris Stevens, manager of the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs who helped to form the foundation, which is administered by the Community Foundation of Central Missouri. “Arts and Drafts will bring art and craft beer enthusiasts together to help support the local arts community.”

Tickets are $15 in advance and available at www.comoarts.eventbrite.com; $20 cash or check at the door. Attendees must be 21 years or older. For more information, contact the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs at 573-874-6386.

Participating galleries include ARTlandish Gallery, Bluestem Missouri Crafts, Columbia Art League, Orr Street Studios, Poppy and PS:Gallery. Patrons can take the Tiger Trolley to each gallery on the tour. Featured breweries include Rock Bridge, Piney River, Perennial Artisan Ales, 6 Row Brewing, O'Fallon, and 2nd Shift. An afterparty will take place starting at 9 p.m. at Mojo’s with live performances by DJ Dr. Awkward, Burn Circus, Jennuine Fire, Hulagan's and installations by Easily Distracted Art Collaborations.
