Columbia Public Works to Pilot Pavement Preservation Projects on 5 Roadways

COLUMBIA, MO (November 12, 2013) - On Friday, November 15, weather permitting, the City of Columbia’s contractor Corrective Asphalt Materials (CAM, LLC) will be applying pavement treatments on the following roads:

*Vandiver Dr. from Paris Rd. to Lake Ridgeway Rd.

*Sixth St from Broadway to Ash St.

*Bushnell Dr. from Bluff Blvd. to Old Highway 63

*Trail Ridge Dr. from Overland Ct. to 200 feet south

*Overland Ct. from Trail Ridge Dr. to end

The Public Works Department is using these treatments for the first time.  This pilot project will allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of two products designed to rejuvenate and restore asphalt pavements: “Reclamite - Preservative Seal”, and “CRF – Restorative Seal”.

According to CAM, LLC, Reclamite is an emulsion made up of specific petroleum oils and resins.  When Reclamite combines with asphalt pavement it is able to restore the pavement’s original properties, extending the life of the pavement.  This delays other treatments and keeps a “good road good.”  The greatest benefits are realized by applying Reclamite to newer pavements.  Reclamite will be applied to Vandiver Dr., Sixth St., and Bushnell Dr.

CRF is made up of the same components as Reclamite, with the addition of about 11% asphalt.  This product was created to restore older roads and add vital years at the end of the road’s life cycle.  CRF will be applied to Trail Ridge Dr. and Overland Ct.

These materials are sprayed onto the pavement with a special distributor truck.  After a short period of time while the product penetrates through the surface, sand or limestone screenings will be placed on the pavement so the lane can be opened up to traffic.  The sand or screenings will then be swept after a few days.

The total cost of the projects is $13,500 and is funded through the annual street maintenance budget.

This work will result in intermittent lane closures at these locations.  Motorist and pedestrians should find alternate routes when possible and use caution in the areas where work is being performed.

The work should be completed and the road fully reopened by Friday, November 15 by 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.
