City to host community tea ceremony and public art dedication

COLUMBIA, MO (November 12, 2013) - The latest Percent for Art public art project will be dedicated Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. in room 1A/B of City Hall. This community tea ceremony and public art dedication is the presentation of Norleen Nosri's artwork for the fourth floor of City Hall. The public is invited to attend and to interact with the artwork, drinking from ceramic teacups served out of teapots. Tea will be served by Mayor Bob McDavid and members of City Council.

"My artwork serves as a metaphor for social cohesion and personal interactions,” says Nosri. “Teapots have a universal association with serving, receiving and conversation. A connection between the server and drinker is created when people fill, hold and drink from the cup."

The artwork is the final Percent for Art project to be installed in the interior of City Hall. Columbia's Percent for Art program, established in 1997, requires that one percent of total construction costs for eligible new and renovation projects be set aside for site-specific public art.
