Discolored water in Columbia safe to drink

COLUMBIA, MO (September 5, 2013) - There were some operational changes with the water system on Thursday morning that caused sediment to be stirred up at the West Ash Pumping Station reservoir. The sediment traveled into the water mains on the west side of Columbia. Water crews are flushing the water lines to remove the sediment. Once the main lines are flushed out this afternoon, customers should be able to flush the water lines in buildings by lettting the water run until it is clear. The water continues to be safe to drink.
