Garage Fire Causes $50,000 Damage

COLUMBIA, MO (September 5, 2013) - At 1:37 p.m. on Thursday September 05, 2013 the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 4103 Eagle View Court. Columbia Fire Fighters arrived on the scene nine minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage of a single story home.

Fire fighters breached the closed, garage door and performed an aggressive interior fire attack.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the garage and brought the incident under control in approximately fifteen minutes.  Crews remain on the scene at the the time of this press release performing overhaul activities looking for hidden fire in concealed spaces.  

Three adult occupants of the home were able to exit safely and call 911.  There were no injuries associated with this event.  

Columbia Fire Investigator Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Pasley is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.  The initial damage estimate is $50,000 which includes a passenger vehicle and boat that were in the garage at the time of the fire. 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
