Update - Three Arrests Made In Homicide On West Texas Avenue
COLUMBIA, MO (April 24, 2014) - UPDATE – THREE ARRESTS MADE IN HOMICIDE ON WEST TEXAS AVENUE
On 04/23/14, at aprroximately 5:00 p.m. detectives obtained an arrest
warrant for Darrius Kendal Edwards, 22, of Columbia for Murder in the
Second Degree with a bond of $1,000,000.00 cash only. Edwards is
currently being guarded by Columbia Police officers at a local hospital until
his release. At that time he will be formally booked and transported to the
Boone County Jail.
On 04/23/14 at approximately 5:00 p.m. detectives arrested Deshai L.
Richardson, 23, of Columbia, for Murder in the Second Degree with a bond
to be set by the judge. Richardson was arrested at the Columbia Police
Department.
On 04/23/14 at approximately 9:30 p.m. detectives arrested She’aun D.
Prince, 22, of Columbia at the Columbia Police Department for Second
Degree Murder for his involvement in this incident. Prince’s bond will be set
by the judge.
The investigation that led to the arrest of Edwards, Prince and Richardson
is as follows:
Edwards, Prince, Richardson and Derrick Brookins (deceased), planned
in advance to perform a home invasion robbery at 920 W. Texas Avenue.
Edwards, Prince, Richardson and Brookins went to the residence on 4/22/
14 at approximately 1:30 p.m. and entered the unlocked residence at 920
W. Texas Avenue.
Edwards and Brookins were armed with handguns while Richardson
stood in the residence. Edwards and Brookins struggled with the male
homeowner, age 28, and the homeowner was able to shoot at the
suspects. Brookins and Edwards were both struck by gunfire. Brookins died
at the scene. Edwards and Richardson ran to the car that was being driven
by Prince. Edwards was taken to a local hospital for his gunshot wounds by
Prince and Richardson.
During the course of the search warrant evidence of marijauna distrobution
was discovered inside the residence at 920 W. Texas Avenue. The
investigation into this incident is ongoing. More infromation will be released
as it becomes available and appropriate for release.
