**Update**Duplex Fire on Greensboro Drive

COLUMBIA, MO (August 25, 2014) - **UPDATE**

Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach has determined this fire originated in a first floor bedroom located in the back of the home.  The fire was caused by a juvenile playing with a lighter.  Total damage is estimated at $45,000.

The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 1403 Greensboro Drive on Monday August 25, 2014 at 3:18pm.  Units arrived eight minutes later and observed heavy smoke coming from a two story duplex.

Fire crews deployed a pre-connected hose line and performed an aggressive interior fire attack.  The fire was located in a back bedroom and was brought under control in approximately twelve minutes.  The fire had vented through a back window shortly after fire crews arrived.

There were occupants in the home at the time of the fire.  All made it out safely.

Fire investigators are on the scene investigating the cause and origin of the fire.  This event remains under investigation, additional information will be made available as it is determined.

Five units from the Columbia Fire Department and two from Boone County Fire Protection District responded to this event.  There were no injuries reported.
