PSJC Kicks Off Preparation for Fall Activities

COLUMBIA, MO (August 26, 2014) - Increased volumes of traffic and people are expected around Columbia and Boone County during the next several weeks and months, thanks to the resumption of classes at local schools and colleges, as well as community events. Boone County Public Safety Joint Communications reminds citizens to be prepared for increased vehicle and pedestrian activity.

"Due to high school football on Friday nights, Mizzou football games on selected Saturdays, and various community activities, we're expecting large crowds of people and traffic in Columbia and Boone County this fall," said PSJC Operations Manager Brian Maydwell. "With the influx of people in our area communities for these events, we ask motorists to drive with patience and caution, and be aware of traffic slowdowns and pedestrians crossing roadways. We also encourage folks to remember 9-1-1 in emergency situations, such as threats to life and property."

Maydwell adds that the University of Missouri Police Department, Highway Patrol, Boone County Sheriff's Department and Columbia Police Department will have officers in and around local games and events to assist those in need.

PSJC will employ extra staffing in the operations center and along with other local, state and federal responders will staff a command post at Faurot Field during Mizzou's home football games. PSJC provides updates on traffic conditions as needed through Nixle alerts (www.nixle.com), the PSJC Facebook page (www.facebook.com/psjc911), or the PSJC Twitter feed (www.twitter.com/psjc911).
