Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday - Monthly Outdoor Siren Test Part of Drill

COLUMBIA, MO (February 28, 2014) - COLUMBIA, Mo - As part of the annual observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Missouri, Boone County Public Safety Joint Communications will activate the county’s outdoor warning sirens on Tuesday, March 4. The sirens will be triggered around 1:45 p.m., in conjunction with the Office of Emergency Management. Boone County schools, businesses, hospitals and governmental offices are urged to use the test to review emergency plans with staff, students, clients and employees. 

City of Columbia employees are encouraged to take part in this severe weather drill. If a city building is taking part in the drill, city services may be temporarily affected.  Members of the public in city buildings are encouraged to participate along with city employees. It should only take a few minutes to complete the exercise.

The outdoor warning sirens are designed to be heard by people who are outside. Persons who are indoors are encouraged to tune to local media or have a NOAA weather radio, especially when severe weather threatens the area. 

In the event of inclement weather, the drill will be postponed until Thursday, March 6.
