Residents invited to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
COLUMBIA, MO (January 9, 2014) - The City of Columbia Volunteer Program invites residents to participate in a litter pickup Saturday, Jan. 18, or Sunday, Jan. 19, weather permitting, as part of the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
City staff will provide volunteers with a site assignment and all supplies needed for the litter collection. Volunteers may pick up litter along streets or in City parks. This is an opportunity for individuals, families or groups as well as people of all ages to serve the community. Supplies can be picked up at the Grissum Building, 1313 Lakeview, Jan. 13-17.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is designed to give volunteers a way to impact their communities while honoring the memory of Dr. King.
Those interested in participating can contact the City of Columbia Volunteer Programs at (573) 874-6271 or pw-volunteer at GoColumbiaMo.com by Jan. 16.
