Columbia Police Investigating An Assault/Attempted Robbery Near Coats Street

COLUMBIA, MO (January 19, 2014) - COLUMBIA POLICE INVESTIGATING AN ASSAULT/ATTEMPTED ROBBERY NEAR COATS
                                                     STREET


On 1/19/14 at 5:40 A.M., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Coats Street in reference to an assault. The male victim, age 30, reported he was walking from the downtown area approximately thirty minutes to an hour before calling the police, when he was approached by an unknown black male near an unknown location. The victim reported the suspect demanded his wallet and when he refused the suspect struck him with a bottle. The victim reported the suspect fled the area on foot in an unknown direction of travel. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 
There was nothing taken from the victim. The only suspect description is a black male wearing all dark clothing. The investigation is ongoing.
