Cruise the Creeks! A Fun and Educational Ride/Walk Along the MKT Trail - Sunday, June 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.

COLUMBIA, MO (June 4, 2014) - Join us in celebrating the Missouri Stream Teams 25th Anniversary, the City of Columbia Crawdads Stream Team 10th Anniversary, and Flat Branch Pub & Brewing's 20th Anniversary, by Cruising the Creeks on Sunday, June 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

This biking or walking "cruise of the creeks" will be fun, entertaining, and educational for all age groups. The event is free and open to everyone - no registration required, just show up!

Cruise the Creeks begins at Flat Branch Park in downtown Columbia. From there, bikers and walkers can browse the educational displays then head on down the trail to four additional "edutainment" stops where local experts will talk about stormwater efforts to protect our local waterways.


*Location 1 - Flat Branch Park - Speaker Billy Hacket will talk about the Flat Branch Rain Garden

*Location 2 - Grasslands Park - Speaker Derrick Fogle will talk about the human impacts to urban streams. Derick will also display time-lapse photography showing stream at various times and how things ebb and flow.

*Location 3 - 3M Flatbranch/Hinkson Wetlands - Speaker Brent O'Brien will talk about this projects goal to reclaim an restore an environmentally degraded site.

*Location 4 - Forum Nature Area Level Spreader - Speaker Tom Wellman will talk about how a level spreader works to control erosion and reduce water pollution.


After you Cruise the Creeks, return to Flat Branch Pub & Brewing for free popcorn and root beer courtesy of Flat Branch Pub & Brewing. Other beverages will be offered for sale with proceeds going to the Missouri Stream Team.
