Motorists Reminded to Watch Out for Pedestrians

COLUMBIA, MO (October 9, 2014) - As fall activities get into full swing and as daylight gets shorter, Boone County Public Safety Joint Communications reminds motorists to be alert while drive along streets and roadways.

"We usually see a good number of pedestrians out and about during the month of October," says PSJC Operations Manager Brian Maydwell. "While pedestrian traffic is usually pretty steady around school and college campuses, we also have a number of people who take advantage of the cooler weather to take walks. In addition, the end of October means trick-or-treaters will be out and about as well. We ask that those behind the wheel pay a little extra attention to those who are walking close to the road, in order to avoid a tragic accident."

Maydwell also urged pedestrians to be cautious, and watch out for vehicles that are traveling along the roadway. In the event of an accident involving vehicles and pedestrians, PSJC urges those involved to call 9-1-1.
