Update 2: Arrest Made In Washington Avenue Homicide

COLUMBIA, MO (October 7, 2014) - UPDATE – ARREST MADE IN WASHINGTON AVENUE HOMICIDE

The Columbia Police Department arrested Anthony Lamarr Shegog, 57, of Columbia, on 10/6/14 at 3:00 P.M. for Murder in the Second Degree with a to be set bond and Armed Criminal Action with a to be set bond.

Detectives talked with a female who shared an apartment with Shegog at 407 Pecan Street. The female witness talked to detectives at the scene and made a suspicious statement about the victim being stabbed even though it was not clear that the victim had been stabbed. Detectives did a protective sweep of 407 Pecan Street to see if any other victims were in the apartment and detectives saw a knife on the kitchen counter that was still wet from being washed recently. The water on the blade had a pink tinge to it that was consistent with blood in the water.

Officers were informed of and viewed a video that was located on facebook.com that shows the scene prior to police arrival with the victim, Walter Lige, lying behind 801 Washington Avenue. The video shows the female witness walking around and standing over Lige with blood visible on Lige’s shirt. The video was posted on facebook at 2:22 P.M.

During the interview, the female witness said, Lige and Shegog came to her apartment to visit. She said Shegog became jealous of Lige because he was talking to her. She observed Shegog stab Lige as they stood near the back door of her and Shegog’s residence. She observed the knife used was the same knife that was on her and Shegog’s bedroom floor.

During the search of Shegog and the female witness’s apartment, officers located Lige’s wallet, and other items belonging to Lige. Officers also located a knife with what appeared to be blood on it and the knife matched the description provided by the female witness. Officers also located the presence of blood in the area of the residence where the female witness said the stabbing occurred.

Shegog was transported and released to The Boone County Jail.
