City Council will hold public hearing Monday on Transportation Alternatives Program applications
COLUMBIA, MO (October 17, 2014) - The Columbia City Council will hold a public hearing at its Monday, Oct. 20, meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., to consider a resolution that would authorize application to the Missouri Department of Transportation for federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding for a trail connectivity project and a Safe Routes to School sidewalk project. The public is encouraged to provide input to the City Council on potential project considerations.
*Trail connectivity project: Connect Cosmo Park/Bear Creek Trail to I-70/Stadium Boulevard diverging diamond. This project would construct a trail, sidewalk and pedestrian crossing to connect Cosmo Park and Bear Creek Trail to the pedestrian bridge that spans I-70 at the Stadium Boulevard/I-70 diverging diamond and a redesigned trail from the Creasy Springs Bear Creek Trailhead into Cosmo Park (in the vicinity of Rhett’s Run). Estimated total project cost of $625,000.00 ($500,000.00 federal funding/$125,000.00 local funding).
*Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Project: Oakland Gravel Road from Smiley Lane to Blue Ridge Road (west side). This project would build two sections of five-foot sidewalk on the west side of Oakland Gravel Road to allow for safer walking conditions to Oakland Middle School, Lange Middle School and Blue Ridge Elementary School. Estimated total project cost of $506,400.00 ($405,120.00 federal funding/$101,280 local funding).
